Canterbury Anifest 2010

Attention all CGAA students! Go HERE for information on this year's Canterbury Anifest Animation Festival and HERE for specific info about the competition and submission criteria for animated shorts. I suggest all those soon-to-be second years kill 2 birds with 1 stone, and ensure their summer project animations are ready for submission. If you're lacking an incentive, look no further! I want to see a big input from Ba Hons CGAA at Anifest 2010! I also suggest everyone puts the date of the festival (Saturday, October 9th) in their respective diaries. Nearer the time, I'll be looking for some volunteers to represent the course at the festival and help man the show - so watch this space. The festival this year is being organised by Dan Richards of Animate and Create ; Bradley Sturch - CGAA Class of 2009 - is now working with Animate and Create. Be amazing!

Alan's USA Trip - Part 1: Start as you mean to go on

Well here I am back in old sunny California for another round trip to the conventions and Gnomon. As you can tell from my opening line this is a trip I've been lucky enough to do many times (10 years or so now). Its something that I really enjoy - Meeting up with old friends, seeing whats new, and dipping myself into the 'unreality' of Hollywood for a week or two. After a long flight (15 hours) my first challenge (believe it or not) is 'Hertz Rental'. Sounds strange right? Well, heres the thing - With a little experience you can make your trip that little bit more luxurious, ie a better car. Here's the trick: 1) Book a flight which lands late in the evening. This means that most of the standard cars will already rented when you arrive. 2) Book and pay for a standard car before leaving the UK. 3) Turn up looking like you've had the worst flight in the world. Then be as charming (but exhausted) as possible. 4) Because Hertz has to honour their contract and don...

Additional info needed on current CGAA student blogs!

I've been asked to ensure that all student blogs feature both the correct course title and also the specific location of the campus - i.e., Ba (Hons) CG Arts & Animation @ UCA Rochester . Where possible, this information should be linked back to the UCA website , and ideally, the course specification itself. This is important, as, increasingly, prospective students for the course are learning of its existence via your blogs and we now need to provide the means for them to follow up and request more information. I know not everyone is blog-watching at the moment, but if you could spread the word amongst your classmates, I'd appreciate it. Cheers!

Youtube 4k Resolution

Quoted........ Today at the VidCon 2010 conference, we announced support for videos shot in 4K, meaning that now we support original video resolution from 360p all the way up to 4K. To give some perspective on the size of 4K, the ideal screen size for a 4K video is 25 feet; IMAX movies are projected through two 2k resolution projectors. We always want videos on YouTube to be available in the highest quality possible, as creators intend. In December of last year, we announced support for 1080p, or full HD. At 4096 x 2304 pixels, 4K is over four times the size of 1080p. To view any video in a source resolution greater than 1080p, select "Original" in the video quality pulldown menu… To illustrate the power of 4K, please check out the videos in this playlist; each one was created by a filmmaker with access to a 4K camera. (Be warned: watching videos in 4K, even on YouTube, will require ultra-fast high-speed broadband connections). http://www.youtube.com/view_play_...
