"Inspired in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, "Morris Lessmore" is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor. The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation), award-winning author/illustrator William Joyce and Co-director Brandon Oldenburg present a hybrid style of animation that harkens back to silent films and M-G-M Technicolor musicals. "Morris Lessmore" is old-fashioned and cutting edge at the same time." The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore http://morrislessmore.com/

Ok - The Oscars is unarguably one of the most horrible, pompous 'cultural' unevents to plague this planet BUT the award for Best Animated Short Films is usually quite interesting. I don't think anyone would disagree with me when say it's the standard of the work everyone on the course strives for. Trailers or full film below where possible... Made in 2002 by Chris Stenner, Arvid Uibel and Heidi Wittlinger 'Das Rad (The Rock)' is a German student animation using both stop frame and and CGI techniques. It presents a clever play on time using a Human and Geological (Rock) points of view. E.g two rocks having a simple conversation would take thousands of years. The short went on to win numerous awards culminating in an Oscar nomination for Best Short Animation in 2003. Enjoy. Check out the website and making of. http://dasrad.com/main.html
