I'm very happy to announce we have the pleasure of another guest speaker from the ranks of our graduates.  On Friday, April 27th at 4.30pm in the CAA baseroom, Scott 'Class of 2008' Dawkins, will be joining us to talk about his working life at Industrial Light & Magic and his career journey from first throwing his hat in the air on graduation day to now working on Avengers: Infinity War ...  Scott 'Class of 2008' Dawkins

RePost / FAO Everyone: Monday February 26th / Visiting Speaker / Leo Tsang / Blue Zoo Animation

A date for your diaries!  On Monday February 26th (that's Reading Week btw), Leo Tsang is coming to speak with us about his role as Leading Lighting, Rendering and Compositing Director at the award-winning Blue Zoo Animation studio.  Leo graduated from Computer Animation Arts back in 2012.   Leo's talk will begin at 2pm in the CAA Baseroom and we've given him a 3 hour slot, so plenty of time for lots of show and tell - and lots of Q&A from you too. This promises to be a very well attended talk - not least because we're being joined by 26 prospective students from a local college!  The baseroom will likely be packed - standing room only - so make sure you arrive in good time. I've asked Leo to show you work he produced during his time on the course - films from his year one, year two and year three project briefs, as well as talk honestly about his experiences of job-hunting immediately after he graduated.  I'm certain Leo's story of har...

FAO Everyone: Reminder: Visiting Lecturers Paul Larson & Laura Beaumont / Thursday @ 2pm / Lecture Theatre 1

Just a reminder that this Thursday at 2pm in Lecture Theatre 1 we're being joined by animation scriptwriters Paul Larson and Laura Beaumont, who are coming to talk to us about their careers and the mechanics of writing for animation.  Your attendance is required and please be in Lecture Theatre 1 by 1.55pm  If you turn up late in front of industry professionals - while they're talking, for example - you'll look rather silly!  Don't do it.  See you there!

FAO Everyone: Visiting Lecturers Paul Larson & Laura Beaumont / Scriptwriters For Animation 03/11/2016

Paul Larson and Laura Beaumont, script writers for HIT Entertainment's Fireman Sam , Thomas the Tank Engine and Mike The Knight are coming to speak with us on Thursday, November 3rd at 2pm in Lecture Theatre 1.  This is the Thursday of your reading week, but your attendance is mandatory - after all, why wouldn't you want to hear two animation professionals talk about their careers? More information will follow soon - as Paul and Laura are interested in doing some story-based workshops with you too.  This is a great a opportunity, so spread the word and ensure your classmates (and alumni) have seen this.  Many thanks.

Post With The Most 31/10/2015

At time of going to print, it's Halloween - but there are no tricks in this October edition of the Computer Animation Arts Post With The Most - only treats and an impressive haul of eye-candy! We're not even at the halfway stage of term one, and already our busy community of student blogs is pumping out some extraordinary stuff.  When it comes to putting the PWTM together each month, it's a lot like being a child in some enormous unsupervised sweetshop - a case of gimme, gimme, gimme!  What is the visual equivalent of a sugar-rush?  I don't know, but you might experience one as you digest this little lot - beginning with these final paintings from our year one concept art project. Our newest recruits were given five short weeks as concept artists on an animated adaptation of Italo Calvino's genre-defying novel, Invisible Cities - a curious book in which each chapter presents the reader with a fabulous city, richly described.  Calvino gives us cities on st...
