The Supplement: The Illusionist - Background Art

Sylvain Chomet's The Illusionist is a silently beautiful film about a stage illusionist who's dying career prompts him to leave Paris for Edinburgh. The silence and stillness of Chomet's work is a key ingredient in his work, but  The Illusionist  is also supported by heartbreaking artwork. From the quiver of traditional animation, to the wobbly line art that structures the world, the film echoes the qualities of the human touch. I recently found the work of Bjorn-Erik Aschim, an animator who produced some of the stunning visuals in the film. Check out more of his work at the link. Sylvain Chomet - L'illusionniste: Line tests

Inspired by today's screening of Sylvain Chomet's L'illusionniste , I've posted a selection of line tests for your viewing pleasure - see below. I enjoyed the film immensely - such a rich evocation of time and place and a nicely underplayed elegaic tone. A big thanks to 'good golly Miss Molly' for coming to her tutor's rescue. I look forward to your reviews as they filter through.
