I'll be featuring a number of Barry Purves' extraordinarily fluid stopmotion animations on here over the coming days, but I'm beginning with Achilles - which, in terms of homoeroticism and explorations of conflicted sexuality is provocative and bold. Indeed, I should probably include a disclaimer here about sexual content and 'watch something else if you're going to be offended', but hey, we're grown-ups. Suffice to say, Jason And The Argonauts this is not! Achilles is also fabulous to look at, with a stripped down, theatrical aesthetic and wonderfully expressive lighting. The puppets themselves are stunning - as you'll see.
