UCA Film Thursdays - Starts January 17th (Weather Permitting!)

Hi everyone,

One of my goals as a service to the university and students when I started my residency was to set a series of film programs - available to all of UCA - which were separate to any existing course units. I'm happy to announce that those plans have now manifested as a weekly film showing on Thursdays, in Lecture Theatre One. It starts this Thursday (the 17th). Currently, I've only got it down for four weeks, but if there's interest I would like to keep it going until near the end of term.

I understand CG Arts and Animation gets it’s fair share of film screenings, and a evening spent in the lecture theatre might not be of huge interest. However, I do know that other students outside of CGAA do not get to see as many films as they’d perhaps like on their current course. So even if you’re not interested then please let people on other courses at UCA know. I’ll do my best to advertise as much as I can, but it can only be maintained long-term it if there’s an active interest outside of my desire to see this thing be successful. It shouldn't be a self-fulfilling prophecy where people complain about the lack of extra-curricular happenings in their student surveys, but don’t attend the ones which are available and easily accessible. Anyway, it’s an open invitation across the university so spread the word if you can. Hopefully I will see you there.

If you’d like any more information ( including suggestions and requests for specific films ) then feel free to email at: tom_beg@hotmail.com

The films for the first four weeks will be as follows:

  1. Sounds great Tom. Good list too. I'll make sure I spread the word in classes this week.

FYI - The Life Aquatic is a 'Marmite' film meaning its gets it rating(s) from the polarisation of it's audience. You either love it or hate it - Personally I love it.

  2. Yep - I love it too. I thought it's 'marmiteness' would make a decent counter-point to the other films, which are almost universally acclaimed.
