I came across this great set of videos which attempt to distill a certain cinematic technique of a famously styled director into a short video. I thought the Stanley Kubrick one was particularly fascinating, as he made use of the singled point perspective camera angle all the way through his very long and very varied career.

Wes Anderson // From Above
Sounds of Aronofsky
my reason for loving wes anderson movies has always been the cinematography. especially in The Royal Tenenbaums, the way he uses simple close ups on singular objects, treating them as the pages of a new chapter, it makes the biographical structure of the story that little bit more immersive and entertaining.
