CGAA Miscellany: 2012 London Olympics posters

You've probably all seen these by now but I thought I'd post them for posterity.

After the mascot debacle you'd be right to be a little hesistant in your enthusiasm for what the Olympic committee was going to commission next in terms of visual identity. However I think these posters are absolutely fantastic. So very British in a strange, colourful, artsy way. Perhaps next we'll see Seb Coe in formaldehyde and a glass tank...

  1. I can't say that I like any of them, but the 3rd and last might grow on me :S

  2. I just really like them - and I'm especially drawn to the Hodgkin, because it's bound to irritate. I love the Englishness of them - how they're not 'spectacular' in the commercial sense; I like the faded charm, the lack of showiness - and the championing of the arts at a time when the incumbent Government are pissing all over them. I think these are brave commissions - and time will be kind to them (though I know the newspapers and media are having a WTF? moment). This is the first time I've felt anything other than indifference for the prospect of the Olympics - I guess that means they've done their job! (And I LOVE the Sarah Morris poster - that's an instant classic I expect to see on designer-types' walls for years to come).
