Hi guys, first year Jake here and I'm having an issue with Photoshop. When I try to overlay paint on top a grayscale image, the image being my previous digital piece that I made in Photoshop, some of it works some doesn't. It doesn't seem to work on some sections where it's pure white, namely the hair of the image. I've checked the other layers, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I even tried the image as a .jpeg. The issue only occurs when I'm not linking the layers and of course if I don't it becomes a bit of a mess.
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Jake, I don't know if this is the case but it sounds like you have too white a value to overpaint with an overlay or colour mode layer. This video might explore what is happening to you. If it is the case you may have to make a broader greyscale colour palette to add more value to your painting so that some sections are not too dark or too light to take the colour.

This is just me but I don't tend to paint in a bright white or black in greyscale, rather an off white or dark grey to allow more highlight to be added once the colour itself has been added.
Hey thanks Emma, this fixed the problem I was having. I also subscribed to that channel, it's really helpful.
ReplyDeleteThanks again.
