Tomb Raider trailer by Square Enix's in house CG team

Square Enix's in house team (responsible for Final Fantasy VII Advent Children) just released their trailer for the upcoming Tomb Raider game. Check it out here :

Some amazing CG here, and also something even more noteworthy, they claim that they prefer to animate faces by hand as it feels more 'emotive' and real. What do you think?

  1. I quite like it! I thought the end is especially nice, CG wise, with all the lovely wreckage and bloodiness.
I was a bit confused at first as to why they made her so young, but it's her origin story, so it makes sense :P

  2. I think the 'animate by hand' thing is interesting - and mirrors the difference between rotoscoped animation, which by rights should look the most engaging and 'realistic' and drawn animation (non-rotoscoped) in which exaggeration is used to create appealing, 'authentic' movement and performances.
