The Supplement: Lawrence Yang

This artist is one that heavily influenced my sixth form work. I love his use of bright water colour backgrounds with the contrasting black ink on top. He has a lot of recurring characters and shapes but I just think they're beautiful, especially the way he incorporates the movement of the ink to create them.

You can go to his official website here and watch his blog here.
This would probably have been more appropriate for the previous project but it's just something bright and pretty to look at to cheer you up :)

  1. Thanks Molly - but think about it - in terms of matte paintings for 'inner space' - working with ink and these organic otherworldly elements might be just the think. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that everything has to be built or modelled; just as Jono pointed out in his Supplement post, for an environment to work it needn't telegraph every bit of detail - the human imagination is adept joining the dots for itself. Maybe do some experimentation right now with using expressive/impressionist backgrounds and working with transparencies etc. to creating a fluid environment/bakdrop against which your action can take place...
