I've put my animatic together and exported it as a PAL Widescreen. but everytime I try to play it it's compressed into 4:3 - any idea why?

  1. Hi Daniel.

Sounds like the pixel aspect ratio in your movie is set to Square. It's a technical thing of how the pixels are displayed in DV (Square means they stay as square, whereas with widescreen-DV the pixels are stretched to rectangle to make a widescreen). When a widescreen movie has square pixels it make the image appears squashed.

In the Export window, ensure that in Video tab, the 'Basic Settings' section, that the 'Aspect' option chosen is 'D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9'. This is assuming you have have chosen the Preset of PAL DV Widescreen.

    That should solve your problem.

Let me know how you get on.

  2. However if you are working with high definition and exporting to H.264 format, then it's the same principle but in 'Basic Settings' section, you need to ensure that 'Pixel Aspect Ratio' is set to 'Widescreen 16:9' and NOT square pixels.
