One-A-Day: Vindictus

I am not sure if this really counts as a one-a-day video, but it made my body shiver from excitement. Some of you might be tired of my constant babbling about fantasy games, but I am sure that atleast this trailer is really worth atenttion. This is cinematic trailer of mmorpg game called "Vindictus". "Vindictus" (In Korea called "Mabinogi Heroes") created by devCAT, an internal studio of Korean free-to-play game publisher Nexon. "It is hack away at monsters, smash almost anything in the environment and destroy your enemies with finishing blows game" - massively.com. Its soundtrack, lighting, textures, action, environment and action again is just mind blowing! Too bad that there is almost no information of "behind the scenes" creativity process, but please still enjoy this one minute of pure epicness.

  1. This game was recommended by Extra Credits recently as part of the series of free games that are worth playing.
It looks pretty nice but I'm not sure what was going on :P I'll be surprised if the graphics match the trailer too. Have you played it at all?

  2. I've tried out the American Beta version when I was at home. Trust me, the graphics almost exactly matches the trailer. It is sick, the game ofcourse is limited so that you could not gind all the day (every week you get special coins to enter the battle zones and if you want more, you have to pay). It is enaugh actually for casual players. Right now it is separated in rooms and dungeons, but eventually it should become into an open world game. It's quite repetetive though, so I've got bored quickly, but it's worth to try.

  3. That's a lot of decapitations!

  4. Agreed sir! Also, I'd definitely like to try it, even if just to see how shiny it is. It's also a plus that it's pretty casual, as I really can't afford to get addicted to another mmo at the moment :P

  5. ... addiction is not an option, Ms Bolder.... :D

And that goes for anyone/everyone else - I've actually exited students from the course on grounds of their 'addiction' to computer games; if you're asleep during the day because you've been 'wizarding' or 'decapitating' all night, you're no good to us (or indeed to anyone).

    Keep it in check.

I'm always watching for symptoms too (when people yawn when I'm talking, I always blame computer game addiction!) :D

  6. Haha :D I just can't wait until I'll learn how to use game engines that I could create something as good as that. Gaming never had priority in my life. I find myself much more interested in game design and animatics then movie making somehow. It is so much more interesting when audience can change the scenario by them selfs. Although I relly don't mind doing everything else in animation, but still - I think thats what I want to do in the future.

  7. I promise you Phil, if I'm ever a Bassett hound it will be from working too hard, not computer games :P

The idea of being able to create something that's not only animated but interactive is really fascinating. I'm more interested in the game design of more unusual games such as Braid and Machinarium. They're both really beautiful to look at and listen to so I'd highly recommend having a look at them if you haven't played them already. There's loads of really stunning games out there and I'd love to learn how they go about making a painting into something playable! :D

  8. I know that Unreal engine is free, so I thought that I should try it out during summer. You can create many different styles of games with it if you have imagination. I just wonder how closely it works with maya and If I could atleast make some usable attractive environments with it. I heard that it should be pretty similar to maya.

  9. That's cool! It's really great that you already know what you're aiming for. I still have no idea, hopefully I'll find out by the end of the third year :P

  10. just teasing, Molly... at friday's crit, we hd a roomful of 'basset hounds' - and all for the good, creative reasons. I hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend!

  11. Aww I know, I'm only jealous of people that manage to do both :P
I'm having a pretty unusual weekend actually. I'm currently sitting watching a martial arts tournament and later there will be films :D Anything to recommend?

  12. Hmmm - okay, at some point get around to watching 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' - it's a big favourite of mine - I won't say too much about it. Actually, come Unit 6, I'm just going to put together a programme of films for you lot, with no thread, apart from me liking them)...

A martial arts tournament? Is Jean Claude Van Damme there? :D

  13. I actually got that film out from the library and watched it for the uncanny project. It's really surreal, I don't think I've seen a film like it. The soundtrack was especially effective too, it made everything feel really alien.
Unit 6 sounds like an awesome excuse to watch any film that looks and sounds good on the big screen! I can't wait! :D

Sadly no guest appearances, only locals but it was still pretty cool! One side was really awesome and elegant forms and the other side...well, lets just say it involved men shouting at each other and rolling about on the floor a lot :S
