"One a Day" Animation

Today's animation for you to feast on is the incredible Ryan by Chris Landreth about legendary animator Ryan Larkin who fell into a world of drugs and homelessness. It is a sincere and unique piece that makes a moving interview between two incredible creatives into something utterly stunning. Sit back and enjoy...

Ryan Larkin himself became famous for his expressionistic and energetic hand drawn animations of the 60's including this beautiful piece titled Walking from 1968.

Larkin is a key figure in the history of animation and someone who a lot of the first years will study in greater depth during later projects. His style, energy and understanding of movement was sublime and made his descent into illness and drug addiction all the more saddening. Larkin died in 2007 from lung cancer, but his artwork has become ingrained in the history of animation.

  1. wow...'Ryan' was a very, very stylised film, but great in the way it interpreted the downfall of the characters :)

  2. yeah, i love the way both history and character shape the models in the film, and to lighten it up the quirky parts like the 1st person shot of the coffee thermal.

  5. Thanks guys, I think Walking is an extraordinary example of animation, how someone can create such emotion and excitement with an animation that is really just a montage of people walking is unbelievable.
