Star Wars (Pop Culture) + Ballet (High Culture) = ?

Don't ask what I was searching for when I found these nuggets of 'postmodern' kitsch, but I thought I'd share them with you ... incredibly, the first clip is not a parody...

  1. Darth Vader doing ballet...well I've seen it all now no scratch that I want to Yoda doing ballet.

Here's something I stumbled onto awhile back that might fit into the whole postmodern thing its a Evil Dead Musical actually looks kinda of funny.

  2. Hmm.. Must have missed the bit in Star Wars with the guys in violet spandex suits... Or is that a postmodern take on Vader and Emperor Palpatines relationship perhaps?

  3. So surreal. What were these people thinking? Unfortunately, there was a lot of it about in the late 70's and early 80's. Particularly for Star Wars...

Some more classic musical mistakes - From The Osman's and disco to The Star Wars Xmas special:

It also reminds me of Robot Chicken's 'Empire Strikes Back on Ice.

As for the Star Wars Xmas special the less said the better, anyone that thinks the prequel trilogy was bad will begging for some Jar Jar Binks 10 minutes into that special.

Here's a video I found the other day of a Stormtrooper dancing to singing in the rain (remix version) with couple of composited mini 3d Stormtroopers

  5. I'm not sure anything can make me want to watch Jar Jar Binks but faced with the Star Wars Xmas Special as an alternative....I would probably choose to gnaw my own leg off instead.

In terms of Star Wars fan films. This is offically the first and mentioned often by George Lucas.

    Hardware Wars Part 1:

    Hardware Wars Part 2:

But in terms of CG history this one is my favourite. Amazingly this was made way back in 1996/7 and became one of the first movies to be distributed on the net (the download often took all day and night).

  8. ok maybe Jar Jar was a step too far lol but still that special is cringe worthy.

Ah troops I haven't seen that in years so funny I like the hardware wars Chewbacca puppet lol, Its funny when you think back how hard it was to make some of the effects in the original films and now some dedicated(possibly obsessed) fans can make them at home.

Back in my flash animation days I used to love watching the parodies of star wars heres a couple I used to like:
