The Supplement: Carl Warner

Hey everyone first year Emma here. I stumbled across this artist today while watching tv and thought he might be of interest. Carl Warner is a photographer who had a particular interest in still life and when it came to his photography wanted to incorporate this in some way which lead to the incorporation of food in his work. He produces food still lifes which are actually mini scenes and some of them are so realistic that you have to do a double take so they are like illusions of reality. He searches for food which has a similar element to what he is trying to simulate even using salmon to achieve sea! Carl says "I tend to draw a very conventional landscape [first] as I need to fool the viewer into thinking it is a real scene at first glance. It is the realisation of what the real ingredients are that brings a smile, and for me that's the best part." You can find his website here http://www.carlwarner.com/ Also he was featured on tonight's episode of The One Sho...

@ Alan, Maya help

Hiya, I'm rendering out a scene at the moment and my Zdepth pass is coming out all black. I think it's because my camera isn't really close to the geom. Any idea how I can change the camera or Zdepth pass settings so that I get a longer range of Zdepth? Thanks :) Jut

One-A-Day: DYE "Fantasy" by JEREMIE PERIN

"Tigersushi and Excuse My French are pleased to present the new video for DyE's new single, Fantasy. Directed by animation wunderkind Jérémie Périn, the video tells the story of a group of highschool kids ready for teenage mischief. They break into the local swimming pool intending a session of innocent nightswimming, in an awkward climate of romance and apprehension. What happens next is for you to discover here." This animation might be disturbing, but it takes sensitive theme into the animation world and it gives a strong message. Talking about first experiences while being a teenager might seem as some sort of tabu, because it is not really clear if it is OK or not since these are minds of children already acting like adults. Making animation gives a way to express illusions in much stronger way visually by avoiding something that you don't really need to see anyway. >>>First years soon might find useful example of making animatic here...

FAO Year 2: Transcription Brief Preview

Transcription Project Brief Preview: For those of you thinking of getting ahead or who like to be prepared. The Transcription project will begin proper on 23rd January 2012 (Semester 2) however, whilst you're relaxing after filling yourself with turkey or taking a break between Christmas TV specials you might want to give a little thought to your next project. FAO CGAA Yr 1: Environment 2011/12 - 'Ho Ho Unheimlich' 2

The Night Before Christmas 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro' the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there… As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound: He was dress'd all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnish'd with ashes and soot…"

One-A-Day: Simon's Cat

I was inspired by the episodes of Simon's cat, and secret Santa gift from Alan encouraged to have a better look to what actually Simon's Cat is.    What is Simon's Cat   Simon’s Cat is a charming, yet mischievous cat that lives with Simon Toefield, a creator and animator (voice actor for both his and cat's role). Video explains how a simple test of animation turned in to a successful and ongoing project He made his first appearance online, in a film called 'Cat Man Do' and hit 3 milion views soon after "the test" was uploaded. Since then Simon Toefield  has created many more episodes and the cat also appeared in his own books, game and comic strip. One of the short episodes as an example, 'FLy Guy': This is a little inspiring story how simple ideas evolve to something.

Horse Neck Rig: Help Needed

I've been following Alan's tutorial on how to rig quadrupeds and have managed to get to making controls for the neck. however in the tutorial Alan connects the rotate X to the IK Twist. however the problem is, is that when I do it my horses head turns and faces to the left instead of staying straight. I guess I could leave this bit but would like to know what's going on.

Simply having a Wonderful CG Xmas :D

Great night out guys! Looking forward to next year already. Merry Xmas to everyone :)

Dressing up for the Christmas Party

On the last day of Uni I decided to top what I wore last year's Christmas party by dressing up as Santa, however there was one major flaw. My Santa trousers were ripped so I decided to wear my jeans. I had taken a few pictures of me in my Santa suit. The first image was of me sitting at my table smiling, but it looks like I am sleeping. The second image has me fighting Tom, he is meant to be the anti-Santa. The last one is with me and another Santa I met at the Christmas party, I don't know her name so sorry if I don't mentioned you here. I actually had a conversation with another student at the Christmas party (I don't remember who I had the conversation with) and she said that we should dress up as Christmas characters next year, the first years should be elves, the second year should be reindeers and the third year should be Santas. Although I won't be in Uni for next year since this is my last year there, but I would love to see the students dressed up as these ...

The Supplement: Peter Ilsted

Peter Ilsted was a Danish Printmaker working in the early 20th Century. Ilsted, along with Vilhelm Hammershoi and Carl Holsoe were a trio of remarkably similar artists working in a classical style who created images described as ‘Sunshine and Silent Rooms’ . Taking influence from the Dutch master painter Johanness Vermeer, his work features quaint homely scenes which reflect the tranquillity of everyday life. Though it can be argued he’s only capturing a certain class of individuals. Personally, I find his prints a touch rarefied. Still, I can’t help but admire the compositional qualities - the way we sometimes see beyond the room or when we have to look through another room to see into the paintings narrative. Along with his beautiful rendering of light and realism I think there’s a lot that can be taken away. I can’t help but be reminded of some of the imagery in P icnic at Hanging Rock . It’s probably the frilly dresses.
