The Supplement: Nicholas Alan Cope

Saw these sculptural, other-worldly images by photographer Nicholas Alan Cope  and experienced a rush of filmic associations; everything from the watery unheimlich of J-horror's vengeful wraiths to the haute couture excesses of Star Wars ' Princess Amidala.  If you're interested in texture, check out Cope's Putesco images - extraordinary - indeed, there's loads of stuff to inspire the CG artist on his website , so happy browsing!

The Supplement: Nikki Salk and Amy Flurry

I'm showcasing these incredible paper wigs by Nikki Salk and Amy Flurry  because I thought they might inspire in terms of character design.  Look at them - amazing - they're like Marie Antoinette imagined by Giger , and in their pristine whiteness, like occlusion passes.

Iain McCaig: The Art of Visual Storytelling

On one of the latest browsing trips on internet, Ivana came across one of the latest Iain McCaig interviews at COFA. Most of you may be familiar with McCaig's work, as it was featured here earlier this year. (find it on Here ). Iain Mccaig worked in many famous films, from concept and character designs for George Lucas' Star Wars films , Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire or the latest John Carter . He has been in charge to make the world of those films look the way they are. However in this 40 minutes interview, he speaks about getting to draw everywhere, brainstorming, trying new things, acting classes, and a quite interesting insight about story-telling in the latest Hollywood films such as Thor. Enjoy!

The Supplement: Daniel Proulx

Daniel Proulx makes wire-wrapped 'Steampunk' jewellery with brass, copper and gemstones. I include some examples here, as I suspect their intricacy and pulpish, retro-charms will appeal. "I always was very interested in fantasy imaginary worlds, such as Dungeons & Dragons, Lord of the Rings and science fiction. I’m also inspired by the mix of mechanical, organic shapes and contrast between ancient and futuristic designs..." from danielproulx.blogspot.com

The Supplement: Nick Cave

I encountered these incredible costumes/sculptures created by performance artist, Nick Cave and saw such strong affinities with character and creature design and cg worlds in general, that I showcase them here to raise a smile and inspire! Be sure to check out the video content too to see Cave's creations in motion. " Nick Cave is known for making colorful, extravagant sculptures with a kind of double life: they can stand alone in galleries as visually compelling art objects, or they can be worn by dancers as vehicles for sound and movement. He calls them Soundsuits ..." from nytimes.com
