FAO CAA Year 1: Invisible Cities 2018 / What Is An 'Art Of'?

As part of your Invisible Cities submission requirements, you're being asked to produce an 'Art Of'. You'll be asked to submit an 'Art Of' document for all your forthcoming projects, so there's no time like the present in terms of getting the hang of them. Your Art Of is a curated exposition of your pre-production, production and final piece. curate: 1) to take charge of (a museum) or organize (an art exhibit): 2) to pull together, sift through, and select for presentation exposition: 1) a comprehensive description and explanation of an idea. In other words, your Art Of is the 'edited highlights' of all the work you've produced in the working-up and execution of your 3 Invisible Cities paintings.   You need to create your Art Of with the uninitiated reader in mind ; it needs to explain the brief (succinctly), introduce Calvino (succinctly), introduce Invisible Cities (succinctly), and introduce us to your city...

CAA Cinema: The Storytelling Language Of Star Wars

FAO CAA Yr 1: Environment / Invisible Cities 2018 / Previous Student Work

And so it begins, ladies and gentlemen - your first undergraduate project brief, and your first foray into the fast-paced, high-energy culture of Computer Animation Arts! I'm not alone in looking forward to seeing how you respond to the challenge of your Invisible Cities project, but before you get stuck in, just take a few moments to take a look at these examples of previous student work. By clicking on their names, you'll be able to view all blog posts associated with their respective Invisible Cities projects. Don't get preoccupied with the polish of the final paintings, give your attention instead to their methodology - that is, how they arrived at the final three paintings. Review their research and reflect on its presentation.  What impresses about their work?  What might you do differently?  Take time to think about the ways in which the students have organised, presented and published their bodies of work.  Happy browsing! FAO CAA Yr 2 & 3 / Students Reps!

I'm looking for some dynamic duos!  I need two student reps for years 2 and 3 to work alongside me at the course boards and support me in enhancing the student experience as and when possible.  If you're interested in the role, you'll need to demonstrate that your attendance and engagement with the course and campus makes you a good mouthpiece for your class.  If you've been a rep previously for me, you can continue your duties - but the SU would like these appointments to be as democratic as possible obviously, so if you could sort it out amongst yourselves and then report to me, that would be fab!  Let the group chat do its work - and then when you've made your decisions, drop me an email!   In terms of your responsibilities as rep, there are three meetings a year at the Rochester Campus - so it's nothing too terrible!  I look forward to hearing from you soon - and by 'soon', I'm required to have my named reps by the beginning of next week...

FAO CAA Years 1,2, and 3: Updating Maya to Version 2018.4 to fix bugs and add important new features.

Over the past year there have been a series of fixes and updates for Maya and Arnold. Including interface fixes, rendering updates, and the addition of new Arnold Shaders like the aiToon (shown above/top). You can update Maya 2018 (student version) for free by going to your Autodesk account and then 'Management' (above). Under your Maya license you'll find 'Updates & Ad-ons'. From the list select Maya 2018.4 update (the latest). There has been no news about Maya 2019 - although I suspect that will be announced very soon - so I'd recommend upgrading before the start of the academic year.
