Creating and printing your hand-in CD. Advice.

Hi all,

I believe it has been asked of you to have a lovingly presented hand-in disc for your final crit. Printing discs at the University is very simple and can be printed at the IT Offices down the hallway.

Printing from the office costs £2 I believe. The office does have a small stock of blank CD’s but I’d wager a bet that if 30 CG Arts students rushed into the office Friday morning asking to print CD’s then they would run out very quickly. If you don’t have the means to print your own CD’s then get in their ASAP!

My suggestion would be for you to pool some funds with some of your colleagues and head down to Staples and buy yourselves a big bulk of plain white printable discs, which will last you for the rest of your time on the course.

Also, bare in mind that the IT guys aren't always around, so give yourself enough time to get your CD produced. You can always print your disc on say Tuesday and burn the files on Friday.

Printing quality tends to be decent. I’d suggest something clear and bold. For example the two I submitted for my Minor Project:

The blue one came out much nicer.

You can find CD templates from a billion sources on the web. Here’s one such website:

A step by step guide:

  1. Using a template and Photoshop, create your CD image. Make sure your dpi is somewhere between 150 and 300.
  2. Save the image as a JPEG.
  3. Put that image on a memory stick and head to down to the IT office.
  4. Either with a CD bought from the office or with a CD of your own, get that bad boy printed.
  5. Go pay your debt to society round at the counter in the Modelmaking and Theatre department.
  6. Easy!
