Troubles with Maya

I have gotten over my last stuggle with Maya and pertruded the faces but when it comes to UV mapping the map is all over the place and I am extremely confused as i have followed everything on the video tutorial please help :(

  1. I think this has happened with pretty much everyone for some reason.

    Import it into photoshop as is and put the dots in the 2 rows of small squares and it should fit fine.

  2. The problem arises because the angles of the sides of your indentations are too steep, when automatically mapping maya projects from six planes (the coloured squares in your view port). If the angle of the indentation is steep enough it will read as being closer to the projection 90degrees from the one that it should be. Maya then seperates them as you can see in the UV Texture editor. You can either remodel the dice and reduce these angles as you extrude, which will give the same results as the tutorial, or you can try and work around the problem Jutmans suggestion is one of the ones you could follow.

    If you have saved incrementally you might have a save before the extrudes which will save you cutting the cube up again. If you haven't then chalk it up to experience and build the dice again after all practice makes perfect.
