The Tuesday Film @ 2pm

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977)

The Wicker Man (1973)

After Easter, the Tuesday Film Screenings are going free-style!  I'm kicking things off with Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977) and I'm following that with the original The Wicker Man (1973), directed by Robin Hardy. After that, I'm open to suggestions from the community at large.   In terms of your choices, think about the mission statement underwriting the previous film programmes - i.e. the 'art and design' of cinema and filmic storytelling.  If you've got an idea for a film that the rest of us simply must see on the big screen, leave your suggestion as a comment on this post.  Let's see what comes in and we'll take things from there.  By my count, we've got 3 slots to fill: April 28th / May 5th / 12th.  I look forward to your choices!  Use your social networks to spread the word!

  1. I know you mentioned Quentin Tarantino at the end of "The Blair Witch Project" but I'd want to see "Pulp Fiction" on the big screen. "Fight Club", "Seven" and "Silence of the Lambs" are my other suggestions. :D

    1. my advice re. The Wicker Man - don't read about it first, don't look at plot synopses, just go in with no prior knowledge :)

    2. On that note, the dvd artwork/menu sequence 'ruined' it a bit for me too, so make sure not to show any of these if you can

  3. I haven't seen "Pulp Fiction" or "Fight Club" but I'd be interested in seeing both! I'd quite like to see "The Incredibles" on the big screen because it's art direction is just wonderful! I'm also going to suggest a film by Satoshi Kon called "Perfect Blue" it can be pretty weird, psychological and uncomfortable to watch at times, pretty violent too but the film itself is interesting and it's messages might be something to discuss? The only live action film that came to mind for me that people might not have seen is"The Shawshank Redemption"? It might be nice just listening to Morgan Freeman's voice after some of the horror/thriller films we've seen!

  4. Tarantino will always get my vote! Also up for Fight Club. Other suggestions - Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, The Big Lebowski, Full Metal Jacket, Evil Dead. Have read A Clockwork Orange but not yet seen the film. Think Vlad suggested Pan's Labyrinth. Also (Original) Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Goonies, ET... :D

    1. I was going to suggest "A Clockwork Orange" too, but I don't know if it's too "controversial".

    2. Yeah, I thought the same, Dan. Don't think everyone will like it.

  5. Tom are you listing what you get up to on a Friday night again? - Kidding! Ok, in terms of interesting/ forgotten films that have great art direction and story there are loads to choose from however four I've always wanted to show on the course but have never found a natural place are...'Empire of the Sun' , 'The Fisher King', 'Stand by Me', and 'Twelve Monkeys'.....Twelve Monkeys in particular is one of most successful but forgotten films of the 90's.

    1. Twelve Monkeys would be good as we have seen La Jetee. Stand by Me is great - a film from my childhood! :)
