Audrey Hepburn resurrected through CGI

The cinematic icon - who passed away in 1993 - has been unveiled as the new face of Galaxy and CGI technology has been used to allow her to star in a new UK TV commercial for the chocolate company.

Uncanny much?

  2. Stupid me actually thought it was real for a while. Personally, I think it's incredible distasteful. That's just me though.

  3. wow - this opens up the debate re. 'death of the author' well and truly; the idea of corporations re-transcribing dead actors in service of a product that didn't even exist when they were alive. Who's making money out of this, I wonder? Who owns Hepburn's image now? The tech here is so good, it opens up much more sinister usage, doesn't it? Politicians appearing to endorse things when they weren't there - world events re-routed to suit the ideology of a powerful 'unseen'...

  4. This is far from anything new Gene Kelly Famously endorsed Volkswagon's new Golf a few years back with a revamped performance of Singing in the Rain.

The 1952 original was re-vamped in 2005 with hip-hop moves and a remixed soundtrack. The concept of computer generated avatars replacing their human counterparts has been a popular concept in sci-fi for a while, it formed part of the plot of 1987's Running Man, although I can't remember if it is in the original 1982 novel by Stephen King. I wouldn't be surprised if there are much earlier references than that but that is the first that sprang to mind.

  5. Reminds me of something I saw at the Science Museum about 10 years ago, I believe. It was a virtual version of... Marlene Dietrich, I think?, although it wasn't a full body, just a head and shoulders.

Oh, and as usual, I don't find it creepy at all.

  6. VERY creepy. It suggests that she is alive and well and having fun advertising chocolate when in fact she has been dead for many years after an impressive life on screen and off. I doubt she would have participated in anything as cheap and corny as this ad, she was far better than the faceless nobodies behind it
