Hello!

With the academic year about to kick off, we’d love to give you some information on a fantastic opportunity to get inspired, and to get involved with Canterbury Anifest 2011.

Canterbury Anifest is the South East’s only annual animation festival. It’s a great event that invites people of all ages to come and experience the magic of animation; allowing them to get involved with something out of the ordinary. With its range of workshops, young people awards and family-friendly events, it has something for everyone. Anifest also caters for specialists and those in the industry, featuring national and international awards, and guest speakers from some of the biggest names in animation.

We’ve got a superb line up for 2011. We’ll be featuring presentations from...

LAIKA studios, the studio behind the award winning film Coraline

  • As a fascinating continuation to the screening of Coraline, Alise Munson from LAIKA will be on stage to share aspects of the production of the studio’s award-winning animated feature film. As well as showing you behind-the-scenes clips of the filmmaking process, Alise will be accompanied by models from the film, including one of Coraline herself!

Double Negative, Animating the Dragon

  • In ‘Animating the Dragon’, Samy Fecih a CGI animator, will enlighten you about the fascinating process of bringing the dragon to life for the final Harry Potter chapter – from researching different animals to get the movement right, to the final effects which you saw on the big screen. Samy will talk you through how he brought the magic alive for an audience, plus lots of pictures and clips of the whole process, making this an unmissable event for anyone interested in Harry Potter, animation and huge flying dragons!

...and much much more. Also, comedian Phill Jupitus will once again be hosting an evening of comedy and wit, sharing his favourite animations and cartoons.

More information about all these events, and tickets, can be found here:

Once again, the award winning studio Animate & Create are producing the festival, and this year it’s looking to be the best one yet. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers, passionate about animation and keen to help us make Anifest 2011 a weekend to remember.

As a volunteer you’ll be helping set up and set down events, seeing the ‘behind-the-scenes’ of an animation festival. You’ll be assisting the VIP guests and events speakers that you may be assigned to, giving you a chance to meet key people in the industry. Volunteers are core to making sure festival attendees have a fantastic weekend.

For all your hard work, we will provide you with:

• A ticket to see at least one event during the days you volunteer.
• A meal and drink during your shift.
• Volunteers will also receive up to £15.00 towards their travel costs. Receipts must be provided.

If you want to get involved, check our site at: http://www.canterburyanifest.com/call-for-volunteers

We are also URGENTLY looking for volunteers for a guerilla marketing event we're planning in Canterbury City centre next week. If you think you can help us, get in contact!

Good luck with your year ahead!
