Sculptris v1.0

For those of you who were looking to get to know Zbrush or Mudbox over the summer, it may be worth taking a look at Sculptris.

The new package release from Pixologic (the same company who brought us Spotlight and ZBrush) is dubbed as ZBrush Lite by many users I have spoken to about it.

It is a small yet powerful sculpting program, that eliminates the need to spend months learning a new interface and workflow, and is designed to aid traditional sculptors get involved with the digital sculpting revolution without need for tedious learning curves and a degree in computer science.

If you don't have much time this summer and would like to get familiar with something you can have a quick sculpt or play about with, I recommend downloading the trial version of Sculptris and I guarantee you will be there for hours creating magic in no time!

  1. Also it's quite different from what Zbrush and Mudbox have to offer in that whilst Zbrush and MB deform your current models mesh (you have to subDivide to get more resolution) Sculptris adds more geometry as you are sculpting and moving.

  2. I'm actually not a big fan of this feature, as it becomes less and less intuitive after sculpting for quite some time, although you LITERALLY can just install it and go. it's that simple.

  3. Yeah, for sure. zbrush and mudbox are for sure the better option, but it's definitely viable for a fast and free package; and there are some that actually really prefer that feature. It's all dependent on what you want from your sculpting software.

  4. I used sculptris a year back. It's a nifty little gadget that's pretty good to experiment with basic sculpting techniques. It's sort of like Paint compared to Photoshop and Coral Draw,if you compare it to Mudbox and Zbrush. It's a good way to start out and learn topology placement on models.

  5. Agreed. It still uses the Pixol technology featured in ZBrush, so anyone can use it on pretty much any system no matter how basic, which makes it a perfect choice for people who just want to sculpt without getting messy. Loving it at the moment, will post up some work when I actually make something blog-worthy
