Dodge The Shredder

Friday March 11 2011 - Rochester
Venue: Rochester Art Gallery
Times: 10:30am-4:30pm

Dodge The Shredder is an all-day professional development workshop for artists and art students, designed to enable creatives to improve their proposal writing techniques and to adopt a 'dodge the shredder' strategy to approaching galleries and submitting applications to funding bodies.

A well-structured and effective proposal can make all the difference when applying for funding for contemporary or ephemeral artforms, particularly time based, conceptual and media art.

Participants are invited to bring their work-in-progress or rejected proposals for tailor-made advice.

UK based Italian artist Emilia Telese graduated from Fine Arts Academy in Florence in 1996 and has exhibited worldwide since 1994, including in the New Forest Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2005). Her practice includes interactive and body-responsive technology, film and live art, installation, literature and public art. Often site-specific, it deals with conscious engagement, political and social debate, non-verbal communication and the questioning and deconstruction of behaviour.

Emilia combines her arts practice with her role as Artists' Networks Coordinator for a-n, The Artists' Information Company within the Networking Artists' Networks (NAN) initiative, and works with UK and international arts organisations as an independent artists' trainer specialising in professional development advice. She is a visiting lecturer at more than 24 art institutions in the UK and abroad, including the Royal College of Arts, the University of the Arts London, the Fine Arts Academy in Palermo, and the Pistoletto Foundation in Biella. Emilia is an Artsway Associate artist and is a Regional Council Member of Arts Council England, South East.
